Saturday was the second time that I attended White Tantric. Sat Nirmal Kaur Khalsa who has been a student of Yogi Bhajan since 1973 facilitated White Tantric in London. She has a beautiful presence and shared some personal insights of YB, which touched the room.
White Tantric is a practice done in pairs facing each other as a group meditation. Instructions are given by video from Yogi Bhajan the Mahan Tantric. The day consists of challenging meditations 31 and 62 minutes long.
One day of White Tantric Yoga is said to be equal to a year of meditation alone, and the effects can last for up to 40 days afterwards.
I wanted to deepen my practice. Since having my daughter it hasn’t been as strong as before and now that I’m back to my regular Sadhana , White Tantric is a great way to reconnect deeper.
White Tantric was due to start at 8am, admittedly I wasn’t going to attend, I felt exhausted and couldn’t sleep the night before. I was up with my daughter and each time I could go back to sleep, I felt anxious for when I would next have to wake! Motherhood anxiety is a nightmare! I naturally woke up early, still time to attend; my partner persuaded me to go and drove me there, which I really appreciated.
I didn’t have a planned partner for WT, I just intended to find one once I arrived, and the moderator paired me up when entering the room. Everyone was dressed in white and we were all to wear a head covering. I don’t choose to wear one in my class but for White Tantric it’s essential and I completely respect that.
The Kriya for the day was called Renew to be New. The day started with a 62-minute meditation, which felt challenging, but it’s a great way to get to know your partner. Most of the meditations throughout the day were to gaze into each other’s eyes, whilst sitting face to face or back to back, crossed legged using different mudras, mantras and gazes. I find sitting crossed legged uncomfortable for long periods of time, especially for an entire day and it can be quite intimidating gazing into a strangers eyes for the first time. It’s hard not to laugh! But once you get over that then you feel a deeper connection and sense of encouragement between you. Some of the meditations I found to be very challenging and I had a pain across my back during one of the meditations.
The day was tough! I was pretty tired by early afternoon and we were both finding our eyes closing throughout some of the meditations. Hume Hum mantra came up which was both of our favourite mantras. I love to work with this mantra and really feel a connection to it. I didn’t really feel anything on the day, apart from being insanely tired, although the days after I have noticed a few things from the past popping up and a few moments of being emotional. I keep a journal and will reflect back on this later.
The first time I did White Tantric I felt a lot had shifted in me, I became calmer, less fearful and anxious about certain things.
